About Strategic Alpha

Chief Executive Officer Dave Donnelly began his career with Lord, Abbett & Company, spending seven years working alongside financial advisors to improve outcomes for clients.  After working internally with FAs from Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and UBS, Mr. Donnelly moved from New York City to St. Louis to work exclusively with Edward Jones.  After a successful stint there, Mr. Donnelly relocated to Chicago to launch the independent broker/dealer, RIA and bank and trust businesses for the firm.  During that time he partnered with FAs from Ameriprise, Wells Fargo, LPL, Raymond James and others.

In 2010, Mr. Donnelly took an opportunity to develop the marketing program for a quantitative global macro hedge fund manager in Chicago.  During his time with Scully Capital Management, Mr. Donnelly helped to nearly double the AUM of the firm, bridging the gap between clients with an over- concentration in traditional products and sophisticated alternative investment strategies.

In 2012, Mr. Donnelly joined Three Zero Three Capital Partners as a Director, to lead distribution for a suite of alternative investments including high frequency trading, volatility and relative value arbitrage.  The idea for an application to retail investors’ portfolios came during the dissection of these investment strategies, and in the fall of 2012 Mr. Donnelly commenced what would evolve into eighteen months of quantitative research.  This research ultimately led to the Strategic Alpha program.

Mr. Donnelly attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign earning a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and Economics.  Mr. Donnelly also graduated from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business, with an MBA concentrated in Finance and Economics.
